More commonly known as Foxe’s Book of Martyrs, this is a chronicle of the persecution of Protestants, especially English Protestants. First published in 1563, the work went through many editions; this ninth edition is the first to appear in a Roman font.
Proposed Conservation Treatment:
Remove flyleaves, wash, deacidify, mend with Japanese paper and wheat paste. Reinsert into each volume. Mend edges and repair corners of boards. Reattach boards to each volume using a combination of linen straps, Japanese paper and leather as needed. Retouch color as needed. Three cloth covered clamshell boxes with ultra suede linings.
