This volume of collected works is Vassar’s earliest by Chaucer. It is one of the so-called “blackletter folios,” so named for the heavy Gothic type that was used.

Proposed Conservation Treatment:
Repair and reattach the loose text pages. Reinforce the attachment of the back board to the book. Repair corners. Reattach the front board using a linen hinge between the spine and the board. Cover hinge with Japanese paper toned to match leather. Repair top and bottom of spine. Cloth covered clamshell box with padded interior to cushion book.
