Latham was a physician and a founding member of the Linnean Society. This work was his first on ornithology and features over one hundred colored plates and descriptions of many new species.

Proposed Conservation Treatment:
Remove all boards and spines, clean texts as needed. Save marbled flyleaves if possible. Surface clean pages as needed. Rebind in full Japanese linen with leather labels. New endleaves to coordinate with text and linen. Eight cloth covered clamshell boxes.
