This is a set of the collected works of Martin Luther, the printing of which began during the reformer’s lifetime. Volume 8 features several of Luther’s biblical commentaries.

Proposed Conservation Treatment:
Repair the damaged pages using thin Japanese paper. Reinforce attachment of back board. Make simple folios of coordinating handmade paper and insert loose at the beginning and end of the book as buffers. Make an extension for the front board. Reinforce the cords where they attach the front board to the book. The boards and spine will be left without leather. Cloth covered clamshell box with padded interior to cushion book.
